Oh Dear: Is there any other country in Europe where this would cause outrage ?

You can also use 'Causus', which I prefer, as it is what one is actually saying.Originally posted by BagpussPerhaps Causus deli is a deliberate modification of Casus Belli, which possibly gives an insight into the thinking.Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

Well, the New Lie has proffered up the concept of canceling elections, several times now in fact.Originally posted by sasguruClearly you haven't read anything about the 3rd Reich...
The biggest difference is this lot can, and will be, out next election.

1st point. I have to diagree. Timeline:Originally posted by AlfredJPruffockGood points - however Fascism and Democracy are not mutally contradictory - Hitler was democratically elected.
Furthermore perhaps inevitalbly powerful democracries tend to 'evolve' to Fascism in order to maintain their economic status quo - eg foreign millitary adventures, imperialism - maintaining a climate of fear in the homeland - the creation of an internal enemy - all bear the hallmarks of todays most powerful democractic states.
30/01/1933 Hitler appointed Chancellor of a minority government in coalition with German National People's Party
27/02/1933 Reichstag Fire - blamed on Communists
28/02/1933 Law for the Protection of People and State passed, suspending civil liberties
3/03/1933 New elections hands Nazi-led coalition a slim majority
23/03/1933 Enabling Act passed, handing Hitler legislative powers and ability to deviate from Constitution
14/07/1933 All other political parties banned
(summarised from Wikipedia as always)
So yes, Hitler was kind of democratically elected but he then immediately destroyed democracy. This is what fascists do. They use democracy to get power and then smash it. So I'd say they are mutually contradictory.
2nd point - very intersting thought. It can be argued that the 1930s fascist parties were a vehicle for the state, the political elite, and also industrialists and bankers to preserve the status quo against a perceived threat to their interests ('Jewish' Bolshevism). Does that apply to today? I'm not sure one way or the other. It feels like we're walking into more authoritarian times (and the creation of the internal enemy rings true) but believe it or not, I use the term fascist carefully and sparingly, and I'm not sure that's where we're heading.Comment

Or maybe Causus Dei (or Casus Dei), Old Greg admires such self-aggrandisementOriginally posted by BagpussPerhaps Causus deli is a deliberate modification of Casus Belli, which possibly gives an insight into the thinking.
Well, I like to persevere when I'm meant to be working. So if you can be bothered go to CD's profile, pick up his email address, google it, look at the cached page, you'll find a cricket league site, and that email has a name, address and phone number (not the name I offered up earlier, and I'm now even more confused). How deep does the conspiracy run?Comment
