Oh the "I’m all right jack" mentality, what about everyone else who has to put up with a lower survival chance if they come into contact with one? Personally I could afford one if I want but I have a social conscience and feel they are unnecessary for a vast majority of the people who buy them, I don’t dislike them because they guzzle gas it’s more that our roads were never designed to accommodate them, they are a danger to other road users and pedestrians.
I only have a problem with a minority of people who think they can use them to bully people out of the way.
I remember the good old days of this site when people used to moan about serious contractor related issues like house prices and immigration. How times have changed!?
Anything else is a compromise! They have the best off-road ability, are infinetly upgradeable and keep their value for ages!
A nice 110 CWS TD5, maybe 2003. Or you can go for a TDi300, that way you don't get all the electronic tulipe, and you can do some work on it without having to get a LR garage to plug a computer in.
Politicians are wonderfull people, as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, like working for a living!
Another anti 4x4 point:
Chance of a pedestrian surviving an impact with a 4x4 compared to a saloon car is significantly lower.
So, if you must buy one, don't drive like a c&nt.
Whilst I'd agree on the pedestrian survival side of things, I would state that not driving a 4x4 does not immediately allow you to drive like a 'c&nt'. Worth stating for the hard of thinking out there - a Saxo doing 50mph is at least as likely to kill you as a 4x4 doing 35mph.
In fact, I'd say the common factor is people who drive like c&nts.
the only problem is its a Jap car....but still its worth considering, what are the rear seats like ?
Ok. The extra two fold away reasonably well when not in use, easy enough to put up and down. Legrooms a bit limited but I've been right in the back without too may problems.
The extra seat do help somewhat. Trips out with 2 kids often involve a freind for each of them, so we don't have to take 2 vehicles.

Lots of street cred in a Defender but oh so cramped if you are over 5' 1"
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think
