It's the Brexit Ziggy and his fellow gammons voted for. Before Brexit they could be sent back to the first safe country where they arrived in, now not anymore

I don't recall that happening though. AFAIR, before we left the EU, virtually all of those who arrived here ended up staying here.Originally posted by Eirikur View PostIt's the Brexit Ziggy and his fellow gammons voted for. Is this happening within the EU now? Eg. are Germany or Sweden sending migrants back to Italy or wherever?
Sadly, I can't see things getting any better with all the despot regimes and never ending wars/conflicts, not to mention climate change.Comment

It's another futile thread.
The thing I found fascinating about living in other European countries is how much international law they were quite happy to ignore in their own interests. We on the other hand observe every bizarre superannuated law from another era no matter how much it leads to our own destruction.
Britain seems finished.Comment

Exactly this. In many cases EU law left it to the member country to decide how, and to what extent, to enforce some of the agreed regulations. Freedom of movement was one where there definitely used to be a lot of wiggle room. Many countries chose to adopt the loosest interpretation of the regulations which would benefit their own needs. The UK, being a decent cricket-playing sort of chap, by and large followed the rules to the letter. That made it much easier for EU-phobes to convince people that the EU was evil and bad for us. But often it wasn't the EU, it was our own government.Originally posted by TwoWolves View PostIt's another futile thread.

Good grief, geography is not your string point is it?It's the Brexit Ziggy and his fellow gammons voted for. Before Brexit they could be sent back to the first safe country where they arrived in, now not anymore
So, you travel 10,000s miles from your failing nation through Italy, or France or Germany etc, to the French coast without once asking the nice safe country for Asylum?Comment

Depends how far you're prepared to push international/maritime laws/norms.- Stop rescuing them. Let them drown.
- Tow them back to French waters; dump them on the beach.
- Treat them like invaders. Shoot at them.

Good grief, geography is not your strong point. "10,000s miles" any idea how far away you'd be to be over 10,000 miles away?Originally posted by NigelJK View Post
