Anyone here with British Gas?

Ok this is getting frustrating now....
I've set myself a reminder to submit an electric and gas meter reading today (as next bill due on the 19th) so I jotted them down, went to British Gas and looked for the page that allows you to submit readings and guess what?
Because I have a smart meter (which doesn't work hence my OP), I can't submit meter readings via their website because "Smart meters work automatically and take all the pain out of managing your energy usage". So I've got to go on their fecking confounded chat app and lose another hour of my life just to get the meter reading to themLeave a comment:

Oh well. Can't please everyone. Just make sure it's a modern, defra-approved stove and the wood is properly seasoned. Invest in a moisture meter.Leave a comment:

Well one thing's for sure - I won't be using much gas over the coming winter as the huge pile of unseasoned logs that I bought last year will be ready for the woodburnerLeave a comment:

Yes, it just sticks in the craw somewhat when the estimate is grossly overinflated because I'm effectively lending them money for 1 month at 0 percent.
I didn't have a smart meter in my last house and I was there 4 years without ever having a visit from a meter reader. They just came to read the water meter.Leave a comment:

Up to you, but I think the DD discount is something like 5%, which is getting on for a significant amount of cash at today's energy prices. I wouldn't worry too much about overcharging since you'll get it all back eventually, although I suppose it might harm the cashflow.
On the topic of "smart" meters, they are basically useless, or at least the 1st gen ones are. We had them fitted when we moved into our place 6 years ago, and then switched providers a few months later - at which point they lost all smart functionality and we needed to submit meter readings. Totally pointless, although of course it saves the energy company a bit of money since for some reason they can demand you read your own smart meter but they used to come round and read the old ones themselves (or have they stopped doing that now?).
