A recruitment business owner has been bombarded with more than 50 abusive calls after claiming only ‘lazy’ people only want to work from home.

James Cox, took to LinkedIn to rant about ‘spoilt and entitled’ people who just want to ‘watch Loose Women’ in their pyjamas and ‘feed the squirrels’ in the garden.

The 35-year-old businessman said he was becoming ‘sick and tired’ of hearing candidates refuse to be put forward for office-based roles.

But his rant backfired on him, with commenters on LinkedIn labelling his views as ‘dated old drivel’.

His error was in claiming that lazy people want to do any work at all. The location is irrelevant.

There are a few points in there that do ring true but there is one way of opening these points up for discussion and then there is his way. Unfortunately the latter does make him look a bit of a pillock. In this new world working not working in the office is a downside to a role but in the most cases shouldn't be a stopper if it's managed flexibly and he's right there will be a small set that use WFH to toss it off... but his rant is pretty getting the response it deserves really.

I thought I saw another story about a lady (possibly also a recruiter) saying the same but in a much more succinct way which was hard to argue.

I'm starting a new (perm) role in October that was advertised as full wfh. In interview I said I'd rather have flexibility to come into the office some days each week. I think thus surprised them as everyone else wanted wfh only.

Role is BA Lead, with a team of 4 under me, so I think having face time with both the team snd stakeholders is important.
