"UK and others could impose sanctions, government minister says
The UK’s foreign secretary has said the country will hold the Taliban to account using any means at its disposal, adding that sanctions and withholding aid money could be on the table, depending on the approach the militants take in future."

Yeah, that will do it - people who fought for 20 years against basically world coalition will fold because they won't get visas to shop in Harrods, or won't be able to open a UK bank account - they'll flood Britain with heroin at cut down prices to push out all other drugs, that's more likely.Leave a comment:

eg The US have 50,000 troops in south korea.
Only needed a tiny fraction of that to help the Afghan government keep the Taliban in check, along with other Nato troopsLast edited by Fraidycat; 16 August 2021, 19:50.Leave a comment:

“Sen. Rick Scott, the chair of the Senate GOP campaign arm, questioned Monday whether President Joe Biden's cabinet should remove him from office, a near impossibility, over the sudden collapse of Afghanistan.
Scott, who is widely viewed as a potential 2024 presidential candidate tweeted: “We must confront a serious question: Is Joe Biden capable of discharging the duties of his office or has time come to exercise the provisions of the 25th Amendment?”

That GOP PoS is a PoS, but he raises correct question
Biden is now praying that no real people (those with a US passport) end up dead during this “planned withdrawal”, start of 2023 GOP Congress (and probably senate) will do Kabul Commission like with Bengazi - nice prep for Trump to win it in 2024Last edited by AtW; 16 August 2021, 19:33.Leave a comment:

So Biden's handlers told him to cut his holiday and get back to the White House, but Jill Biden wouldn't let him leave. Harris then refused to speak to the press for him. So Joe has to come out of hiding.
Totally normal.

Why didn't he reverse this? Or delay it. His hands weren't tied in any way.
This is now all on Biden.

Without that agreement, it would have been more difficult internationally to withdraw. With the agreement, Biden can plausibly say that a) the Taliban are at fault for breaking the agreement and b) Trump is at fault because he negotiated it.
The US has left Afghanistan in the lurch and it took two successive presidents to do it. U! S! A!.
Good night Afghanistan. Good morning new training grounds for terrorists. Better invade and restore order. Rinse and repeat.Leave a comment:

“None whatsoever. Zero,” Biden told a reporter on July 8, after he was asked about the risk of the situation in Afghanistan unraveling into the chaos of the final days of the Vietnam War. “The Taliban is not the North Vietnamese army. They’re not remotely comparable in terms of capability. There’s going to be no circumstance when you’re going to see people being lifted off the roof of an embassy of the United States from Afghanistan.”
“It is not at all comparable,” Biden concluded.”
