Yeah right. Going to a green list island in the middle of the Atlantic did not seem like a particularly bad move when we booked it a while back. Having it cancelled for what are genuinely mystifying reasons (Portugal mainland is no worse than UK, Madeira is actually better) is irritating enough, not to mention expensive. Perhaps we should try the Falklands.

But thanks for your constructive opinion.

And doing it with no insurance cover in place would be just downright silly.

    Oh FFS...

Travel Insurance is not valid, so expensive cancellation is the only option.

Seriously in need of a large drink now.

Still on Green list at the moment, so we can go - more to the point the airline won't cancel our booking. Plus the villa and the car, we would lose a lot of money. So we will go, and suffer isolation when we get back - as well as having to rearrange a heap of things as a result. and pay for two tests over there (well they were necessary regardless) and six tests over here.

Looking at the published numbers, especially for Madeira rather than mainland Portugal, this decision makes little sense. And has ruined all sense of anticipation.
HWMBO is in negotiations for our July trip. He has sketched out a plan he's happy with and is now working on the kids and family who will be impacted. He's fully vaccinated (as will I be in a couple of weeks) so the risks are hopefully low.

Amber but not for a week it might seem, as we need to make sure that we stop the virus getting in as soon as possible.
