Oh dear... another crazy PC tree-hugger again...

To be serious: why is it fair that managers break this ceiling (most of the time just for remaining in the same company) while top technical people cannot advance no matter what (unlike in USA or other countries where they respect technical people)?
I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.

It isn't , but take solace in the fact that even people like SASguru can become managers.
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

If it’s £400 plus VAT at a typical contractor year of 220 working days, then yes, I’d choose contract.
          "My God, it's huge!!"

£400 a day obviously, you get about 4-5k more per year

I dream of having 22K to live on. I do not have the skill to warrant such splendid rewards. All I can do is look on in admiration as highly trained and experienced overseas brothers and sisters show me up as a washed-out old fool. I can hardly afford to pay myself minimum wage, but I am still proud to do my duty to society and pay every penny of tax that I can.

What if the permie position was a fixed period salaried contract?

                    Would you take it then?

                    Older and ...well, just older!!

Well, it's not really the same...... there still are more benefits in permanent employment here, or aren't there?
