In coalition, The Lib Dems introduced a policy that all KS1 children get free school meals. The downside for schools is that pupil premium money is allocated based on the number of pupils who are eligible for free school meals - so by giving one to every child automatically, there is no incentive to register for FSM, so there is no incentive to get PP money, so the money available to the school to target those children reduces. -

Nice one Jez!
It is brilliant how he comes up with some policies that will benefit the people that need help the most and this is one of the policies I can get behind and the entire country will get behind. We can never let our children go hungry. And the best pat is, how he already has a plan to fund it. I cannot wait for him to come to power, it is so refreshing to see a genuine politician.Vote Corbyn ! Save this country !Comment

Maybe if parents stopped spending their benefits money on Cigarettes and Alcohol they could afford to feed their kids. It's priorities isn't it. Sky TV is more important than their child's welfare.Originally posted by fullyautomatix View Post

Take £50 out of their weekly benefits to fund a decent school meal instead.
Or better still replace financial benefits with a weekly fruit and veg box.Comment

Typical Labour/socialist/communist. No idea how to earn money, so let's tax the (remains of the) middle class to feed the poor.Originally posted by fullyautomatix View Post

WE also thank god that you live outside the UK.Originally posted by milanbenes View PostMorning All,
so, here we have it, we're not going to have Grammar Schools...
and to make it even harder for those who would like to find any hope of giving their children a
more fulfilling education than that offered in the comprehensive system,
we're now going to add vat to school fees
that's going to be painful
thank you European Union that I live in a country which has the grammar school system and
my children are at a state grammar school
Milan.
p.s. for those wishing to get with the programme, there's a great debate going on over in the
grauniad comments...

I don't have a massive problem with the idea in principle, but in practice...if private schools have to start charging parents VAT, then presumably they would then be able to begin reclaiming VAT on all of their costs (which I assume as they supply exempt services currently they cannot). Now I have no idea what proportion of a private school's turnover is spent on VATable costs but I doubt it's insignificant - on this basis do the sums actually add up?Comment

When was the last time politicians cared about such tiny details? Jez wants to punish people who want better education for their children.Originally posted by TheCyclingProgrammer View PostI don't have a massive problem with the idea in principle, but in practice...if private schools have to start charging parents VAT, then presumably they would then be able to begin reclaiming VAT on all of their costs (which I assume as they supply exempt services currently they cannot).
