Big 4 and Credit Checks - Can I pass?

    Hi,

I landed a contracting gig in the City after deciding to return to the UK. I am on a Debt Management Plan (DMP) in the UK for around 40k of card debt. As per my own credit checks, no CCJ. Also no VA. I only the DMP which does not show on 'public records', and so does not come up.

So, I am stressing about the credit check/screening done by the Big4 for, will I fail due to DMP and missed card payments? My research shows the standard checks only mine public records and would get stuck on CCJs. DMP does not feature on their radars.

I want to quit my current role and get back to the UK, but stress a little about this issue.

    Thanks for any insight shared.

The DMP itself isn’t registered on your credit file but the record for debts included in it will have a flag added to them. This will indicate that the debt is being repaid through a DMP, so anyone checking your credit file can see you’re making reduced payments.

My advice would be to complete the security check honestly.

I worked in a major financial institution with someone who was made bankrupt a few years previously - he just declared it and it was not a problem (he was a great programmer).

Institutions do not want to find out something after you have started.

      Regards

That depends on the organization. Most financial organizations will not touch an ex-bankrupt.

I agree though - complete it honestly. I bet most will not ask about DMPs.

You know in the UK you can now check your credit record for free with the 3 main credit reference agencies?

If you go to Moneysavingexpert.com and look at the credit part they have information on how to go about it.

Can't see how with that record you are going to be let anywhere near banking systems TBH.

The checks they will do go in to a lot more detail than you can see so they will know everything.

I have done the experian background check where you buy your own credit check. It came back clean.

I guess it is a matter of being honest.

You need to check Equifax and Callcredit as different institutions check different ones.

Finally there is National Hunter, who you have to write to.

(Oh and you should check your credit references every few months with the main 3 as they can make mistakes.)

I find 'Checkmyfile' usefull. Well priced and covers all 3.

It could be down to the financial institution not happy with that amount of debt and how they see the risk of you being bribed.

But if you get the all clear, then all is good, however it may not feature on their radar now but these things can be found out further down the line.
