Not quite because they're considered there as workers, not as refugees so the UN don't count them
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

So, is nobody else going to mention the slight change in tack from Germany, from "We're open to all the Syrians you can send us" and "Why are you other countries trying to control your borders?" to "Uh oh, we'd better man the guard posts"?

I must admit I was laughing at it when I read that and also the that they're going to temporarily withdraw from Schengen. What was it about not cherry-picking as you please

Yeah, was waiting for someone to call that out.

Now we know politicians of all types can be a bunch of clueless f-wits, but the German policy has plumbed f-wittery to entirely knew depths.

Anyone with even the slightest nonce would have known that openly declaring that you won't send migrants back, which was the effective message that the germans were making - would cause migrants to flood to your country like a swarm of biblical proportions.

Now if that's what you want, then fair enough - it's their country - they can throw open their own borders if they want. But when it happens, and they realise they can't cope with the flood of migrants that they tacitly and openly encouraged in the first place... Now they are scrabbling around and finding ways to backtrack on what they said and/or blame it on everyone else for not making the same promise.

And to think that these f-wits are in charge of a major G8 country

            Totally inevitable and predictable, unfortunately.
Germany was never going to be able to support such an "open house" policy.

Curiously...when the Russians were in Afghanistan, about the same number of refugees were just in Pakistan. Seems to me these neighbour states of Syria could handle a lot more before Europe needs to take any in.

I read something this piece that there are over 2m Syrian in Saudi. But didn't say if they were working or refugees. » Refugee Crisis: Saudi Arabia Says It Has Taken In 2.5 Million Fleeing Syrians Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!

The problem is the countries in the region who accept refugees e.g. Jordan, Lebanon are home to Palestinian refugees as well.

The other Arab states - Saudi, Kuwait etc haven't signed up to the UN convention, which explains why few go there and they only accept a few.

Think about it - if you are a refugee you try and get to the nearest country that you think doesn't have a f***ed government. As you don't want that country to turn on you.

Anyway half of Syria's population has fled thanks to it's government and IS.
