Back in the real world ...this interested me ...

The United States health care system is the most expensive in the world, but this report and prior editions consistently show the U.S. underperforms relative to other countries on most dimensions of performance. Among the 11 nations studied in this report—Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States—the U.S. ranks last, as it did in the 2010, 2007, 2006, and 2004 editions of Mirror, Mirror. Most troubling, the U.S. fails to achieve better health outcomes than the other countries, and as shown in the earlier editions, the U.S. is last or near last on dimensions of access, efficiency, and equity. In this edition of Mirror, Mirror, the United Kingdom ranks first, followed closely by Switzerland (Exhibit ES-1).

So, if good health care matters to you, move to a country whose citizens are struggling under the oppressive yoke of mandatory taxation and socialised medicine - you might just live longer.

Like the US (they spend more than us on socialised health care as we already agreed)? But they perform worst

US healthcare is an appalling corporatist mess that seems to achieve the worst of both worlds.

Singapore has a pretty market based approach and tulips on most European systems in terms of costs and results. Granted they have some demographic advantages.

In absolute terms, maybe, not per captia. You should only head there if you can afford private insurance.

Government programs directly cover 27.8% of the population (83 million), including the elderly, disabled, children, veterans, and some of the poor, and federal law mandates public access to emergency services regardless of ability to pay. Public spending accounts for between 45% and 56.1% of U.S. health care spending
And this ugly hybrid consumes 17% of GDP and rising, and produces worse outcomes than the NHS. Political reality trumps political theory.

                  Not true.

Healthcare spending around the world, country by country | News | theguardian.com

4th highest in the world by government spending, even adjusted for purchasing power.

                  Quite astonishing.

I don't think the state provides much healthcare (outside military and possibly prisons). It does fund healthcare.
