I've worked through a few umbrellas, and they seem to handle the payslip period differently. This has implications for the end of the financial year.

* DASA Umbrella said that the period matched the date on my timesheet, so the days that I worked in the week before Easter (week ending Fri 3rd April or Sun 5th April) would be period 52 for FY 2025/2026.

* Contractor Umbrella and NASA Umbrella said that the period matched the date I got paid (a week later), so if I get paid on Fri 10th April then that's period 1 for FY 2026/2027.

This seems like an odd quirk of the umbrella system. I.e. permanent employees wouldn't normally be paid in arrears, so the dates would match.

Just out of curiosity, how do other umbrellas handle this?

Hey,
I've been contracting for over 20 years. When IR35 came in I was ok. But then got a contract a couple of yers ago and suddenly I owe nealry £4K to the HMRC!
Yes, my fault - I was kind of signing things blindly re SA but hell - it's HMRC who sets them up etc.
Bottom line - I woe the, I owe them cos they seem to send a wrong tax code!

My way of thinking: all nice good and dandy but
1/my (still current account) was doing taxes - be it for my ltd or SA - we've never been wrong!
2/ having to use umbrella's dictated by agencies was awful and resulted in me - trying to pay off tax I didn't know I owe!

I have a question, is there anyone else out there being charged for something they don't feel they owe?

IF I were a perm and tax people within a company get it wrong. -who pays??

Hoping to tap into the collective wisdom here as I'm struggling to find an umbrella that fits my setup for a new contract.
My situation:

UK tax-resident, working fully remote from the UK
Agency / fee-payer for the new contract is based in Ireland
Agency will only pay in EUR (non-negotiable on their side)
Looking for an umbrella that will deal with an existing SIPP

Where I've got to so far:

NASA, declined, won't handle EUR payments
PayStream, looking unlikely based on initial signals

Any other suggestions given the situation outlined above?

Four Umbrella Options, want to contribute to Vanguard SIPP, which one?

I am starting a new role and the four contract options I can choose from are:
- Giant
- Parasol
- Danbro
- ForeTwo

I've not used any of these before, but I'd like to pay my pension money directly into my Vanguard SIPP. Paystream never allowed this and I had to have an interactive investor account, which was a pain.

I've tried looking through the details of them and it seems that Giant offers this, but want £39/week for it. Parasol say they can pay into any provider of choice, with an asterisk and no details. All of their calcualtors are very simple and don't give much detail at all. I've contacted them but as the contract came through late in the day, I haven't had any responses.

I'd also like self-assesments dealt with, as Paystream always seemed expensive for them doing it.

Any experiences here?
