I've just had a catch up with a consultancy my ltd co sometimes gets projects through. A few experienced contractors have had calls from their consultancy or agency telling them their contract will be process through through a third party HMRC CEST analysis tool and due to the intent being to get everybody on inside IR35 arrangements all of them will be being switched to inside IR35 contracts within 10 working days. I know of three well known medium size consultancies giving this news today, so it does seem wide spread.

Before the call the contractors checked with other contracts at the sites and most have had identical calls, with the ones who haven't receiving the news after calling up their consultancies and agencies to see if they're affected.

From speaking to the two consultancy partners at different consultancies this is likely to affected thousands of contractors of many professions. Posting here to get feedback from anybody affected and to see if anybody is some how not affected and able to remain outside IR35.

Hi,

Has anyone had a contract with a US based company whilst working remotely in the UK ?

Any pit falls or things to look out for compared to a contract with a UK company ie get paid in pounds rather than dollars to avoid currency fluctuations?

Many thanks

Hello, I don't think I have been in this situation before, or too long to remember.

I have 2 week notice on my current Inside contract (ends June end), I have delivered the projects I came in to do nearly two years ago now and really just wrapping things up, some risk closures, documentations, service handover and stuff. The client keeps saying they'll find more work to keep me until end of the year, but I saw the writing on the wall and floated speculative CV in the market, things moved quickly with a new contract secured. But they want me to start in 3 weeks' time from today.

I have already sat on it for couple of days last week, and question is only about one extra week, but is it a bad idea to give them a notice now and say I want to stay for 3 weeks? I have already taken plenty time off in Winter and have summer holidays booked so I am not keen on another week of bench time.

Some good rules of thumb or motiviation for taking time off billable days?

I am currently over 12 months in a proper B2B contract, my company providing services to an overseas client so no funny IR35 to mess with it etc.
I've been on and off contracting many years now so followed up on all the rules - saved up for a rainy day, have some small pot of private pension coming up from non contracting years etc. I could probably live 6 months + with no income.
But the other side of me thinks these are my last months / years of decent rate income in IT as AI takes over - I currently use AI to assist many of hte things I do and arguably a person of lesser talents could realisticly take over tehse tasks even today if the client understood or was bothered about penny pinching.
So recently I've been very tight about taking even a day or two off billable time because this could very well be my last contract ever or least the final time where I'm able to set aside some money at all.
What are people's thoughts on balancing life vs work in this weird time that is still well at least a decade before unforced retirement - I would like to enjoy life a little bit more while I'm still healthy and alive but I don't want to end up with no job, no income and eating up my savings too early.
How should I justify say not billing for a whole week in August - from a perspective of say minimum wage barista this could be months of earnings for example?
