100-140 a day? really?

i know things aren't great but every .NET based developer i know in contract is on at least 250.... and everyone i know is in a contract!

i really hope they don't fill this.

My Bristol based client requires a Delphi .Net Developer to start a 6 month contract urgently. The rate will be £100 - £140 per day depending on experience. The candidate will need experience of Delphi .Net and the following will be useful:

- COM,
- COM+,
- ActiveX,
- C#,
- Web Services,
- SQL Server,
- OOP

I've seen some right stinkers lately on jobserve. I saw one in manchester for a .NET dev advertised for an hourly rate of, and I quote "between £10 - £30 per hour" .... oh, i'll take the £10 p.h please.

The strategy is to start obscenely low and see what sticks. If they get a desperate mug who has run out of cash then milk him for what is worth.

i'm seeing less and less rubbish adverts now, most look 'normal' again. this really did make me think 'WTF' though...

if they do get anyone decent, they'll leave as soon as they find something better, i guess.

if it makes you feel any better - my plan B uses .NET subcontractors and we pay a decent rate (200+ for work from home). any less you're pretty much doomed to get poor quality work.

And he'll be off as soon as something better comes along, I really hope some of these shysters get seriously burned when/if things pick up.

I know of some people that were working for expenses last year, just to get the experience on the CV.

Now there's a client in a mess. Scraping-the-budget-barrel rate required up front? check. Nightmarish combination of technologies? check. Well, I got into IT contracting with 0 experience by undercutting on jobs that any proper contractor would want danger money for, so nice to see it's still happening!

there is a delphi.net implementation (i had to check), but i doubt more than a handful of companies are using it.
