If you don't tick every single box, then don't bother applying. Right now you have to wait for the role that you can realistically bag. Indiscriminate applications and the resultant rejections are both soul destroying and pointless.

Perfect job in Geneva/Brussels/Den Haag - 'Must be fluent in 5 different languages and have ~3 yrs experience in uprooting trees'.

Yup, do you work in the project/analyst arena by any chance?

I did put my CV in for a few and got a call about one, but once I confirmed I could not speak fluent babelfish that put the anchors on it.

          Indeed I do!

Also find that applying for roles in Londinium is a no-go too, yet there's loads come up every day and I'm able to move down there in the blink of an eye!!

          Argh!!

This explains why you ask the question.
Very roughly, the last winterland troughed about 2002 and lasted 3 years. In that time, the best gigs didn't get to Jobserve - too many people and hungry agents available.
The only time the gigs started flowing was when a lot of guys had already gone out of the game and went perm. (probably how they caught you?).

Chris, I've read a few of your posts recently. For your own sake, get a move on and find something - anything - no matter what it pays.
After you have been on the bench for 6 months, you'll drop out of the "system" real quick.
IMO, this downturn is going to last at least 10 years. Find somewhere you can "hide" quick.

You should have dropped me a mail about the analyst roles I've been trying to fill.

              Never mind.

If only I had the background you were looking for, I would have applied myself.

Yup, exactly the same.. I think we really were separated at birth! Glad to know I'm not the only one and this isn't all just happening to me though.

Cheers for the advice.. I've actually got some part-time consultancy which is seeing me through, and keeping my CV 'current'.. but it's not 5 days a week, I know what you're saying though. I have very recently lowered my expectations and widened the scope a bit!

Voicemail left for me 6pm last night..

"Hi, it's ***** from ******, got your CV thanks etc, got an urgent contract for you, can you call me back asap"...

Called back and he's gone home.

Called this morning, colleague takes message for him to get back..

Called 1hr later.. "Ah hi there, yes who are you?.. is it in relation to a job? Which job?.. oh I didn't say which job it was.. hmm, let me check my file.. so what line of work are you in?... blah blah blah... ok well if anything comes up I've got your CV here"...

                      F**king timewasters.
