Nine Direct Agency Beware!!

Hi All,

I contracted through this agency for 10 months.

Firstly when questioned they told me and a fellow contractor that they would pay within 10 working days of invoice receipt, this happened once in 10 months.

They refused to write in the payment schedule they had quoted me etc into any contracts which we asked them to do. I was going through a brolly I was able to set up a remittance payment to at least attempt to get paid on a reasonable date, however they would then forget to pay the brolly so I had to chase them for that payment along with my brolly to ensure I could get paid the following month.

Finally after over a 5 weeks after leaving the client for another gig, I have finally been paid my last 15 days work, so I thought I would come on here and warn anyone else who is contemplate contracting through this agency, to be careful and realise that what they seem to promise is not what seems to be delivered.

I have learnt from my mistakes and read the contract carefully before signing.

Yeah I am not one to whinge and bad mouth and will give people the benefit of the doubt, and you are right, usually it's different for everyone, however with these w*nkers there was 4-5 contractors with the same client all having the same issues.

They sell themselves as only charging 9% and so you and the client end up better off, thats sounds fine, but the way to keep the contractors happy, motivated, and therefore more likely to be offered extensions is to ******* pay them!!

I was extended 4 times on this contract and could still be there now on a 6 month extension that would have run up to mid Feb 08, yet even though I was bringing in a decent whack for them they still p*ssed me about paying me.

Not a clever way to run an Employment Business, employ contractors who make you good money for minimum effort, then proceed to p*ss them off to the state where they go elsewhere and/or advise the client of the issues they are having, therefore the client then question their reasoning in using the said Employment Business. Well done Nine Direct you f*cked up royally!!

All contracts should state payment terms, if they don't you shouldn't sign.

.....in all fairness, the ND contract actually states " payment is made by cheque a month in arrears" - this imples that if an invoice is dated 1st October, the agency is not obliged to pay contractually until 30th November......what I would say to all contractors is indeed read your contract as the clause is there for a reason. You shouldn't ignore this document and then moan if the agency has not paid you within ten working days of the receipt date of invoices and timesheets (a guideline rather than contract term); the experience is that some folk want to have their cake with jam on and eat it!?* If other agencies are offering a quicker turnround, be very aware as some of their jargon is merely "sales puff", meant to entice you into blindly going where no man has gone before!
Lastly, be very careful of making specific references to any companies as they would have the right to respond to this with an action for libel!

Moral of the story, you don't care what they "say" if it contradicts what the contract says.
If they are not willing to change the contract to back up what they are saying then they are lieing, period.

Glad I came across this post. Still haven't been paid by Nine Direct almost 5 months after finishing my contract with them. One excuse after another, have now instructed a solicitor. AVOID!

Well would they have a leg to stand on assuming the other posts are true?

Would they even be capable to take legal action bearing in mind they can't even do their job properly?

If what someone is saying is true then it is not libellous.
