I did COBOL at college in the early 90s and it was considered a bit dated back then!

Pissed off with the amount of COBOL contracts I'm being offered at the moment so took COBOL out all my profiles. As for mainframes, well I've just finished a contract where I worked on the development of the new one recently released, slightly better than most of the hardware you get out there and they're getting more and more popular. Practically everything you can do on another system, server wise, you can do on a mainframe.“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment

As for people looking going into COBOL, remember these days it's not good just being a COBOL programmer you will also need to know a lot of other stuff, such as the databases used, i.e. DB2, the transaction systems, i.e. CICS or IMS, the debug tools, the middleware and so on.“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment

Well, none of this is convincing me to make the leap! I just hope all the COBOL based companies do their migrations before all the old school COBOL devs retire.
Looks like I'm going to have to stick with all the cutting edge stuff.Comment
