Is it the type of consultancy that employs people who don't pa tax in the UK, or live in the UK, but spend their lives criticising the country? If so, I'm not surprised they let some of that type of person go... British jobs for British taxpayers.

I'm a UK citizen, living in the UK, paying my taxes in the UK, both personal and UK Limited company taxes. Where you might have got a little 'confused' is the fact that on occasions I spend some time in my 'holiday home' in Europe, and yes working there for a few weeks. I did consider moving over there on a Digital Nomad visa but concluded it introduced more problems than it solved and so wrote the idea off.

Is that clear enough for you?

So, the 'consultancy' I was working with decided to terminate my (and many others) contract on the 2 week notice. So, I'm expecting to finish up next week, but this morning in comes another email, 'no need for additional' support, so don't bother logging it. When questioned, they fall back onto the 'no billable work/signed timesheet', clause that most contracts have. Well, most contracts have them but in over 20 years contracting, I've never heard of one actually being used. What a set of w4nkers. No prizes for guessing the 'type' of consultancy. I guess I wasn't 'plenty cheapness' enough.

If you intend to take contract work again, you are more (and currently) experienced, richer and probably smarter than when you went in.

More attractive to potential clients, I would think.

It was only ever a stop gap until something better came along, so in that regard, it's not the end of the world. The rate was poor though, going back to my first contract some 20 years ago, but it was outside and fully remote.

I don't regret taking the gig but I do regret how it's ended. I think I'm probably the fall guy for the project as they'd sat on it for months before I got involved. Can't recall hearing of anyone being canned for delivering though. We move on.
