Any companies (finance/big companies) out their recruiting directly?
I want to avoid the cream being skimmed and go directly to the client for software contracts.
Any out there?
Fairly convinced you've posted this type of question before but in summary.
The majority of companies go through agents because a) They don't want to have the hassle of dealing with hundreds of individual contractors
and b) Because they want to put some distance between the contractor and themselves. The last thing they want is HMRC telling them the contractors are disguised employees and should therefore pay employers NI ( + holiday and sick pay, pensions and the like ).
BUT it is possible. So all you need to do is go through all your old contacts, phone them up and ask them if they have anything going. Failing that start cold-calling them, pretty hard though, you are unlikely to get past the receptionist.

I think the answer is "no" but you could do worse than try LinkedIn. Banks and financial sector firms do occasionally advertise on LI albeit almost entirely for permanent staff, but you might get lucky.
