Both the comments above I'd kind of agree but those working practices can very easily become part and parcel after that length of time. I found I had to work harder to keep my working practices clean in the long gig I did. Others around me just had their feet under the table and forgot all about them. Very hard to prove they weren't part and parcel. The JLJ case failed on exactly this point.

Don't get the bit about leaving and MoO at all.

      No it doesn't.

      HRMC defines MoO (linky) as
The basic requirements as to the mutual obligations necessary to determine whether there is a contract in existence at all are:

that the engager must be obliged to pay a wage or other remuneration, and
that the worker must be obliged to provide his or her own work or skill.
This is backed up by the definition employment lawyers give.

FTFM (Fixed That For Me). I don't even remember what was passing through my mind when I wrote that, thankfully.

I work to live not live to work, on my last day I think about updating my CV, after a minimum of two weeks I start to actively look. However this gig threw me, I was offered the job on the last day of my last one without interviewing. I will not be doing that again.

I can do train, New Pudsey - Leeds City Sta. but then its a faff walking to the nearest Greggs for the £2 breakfast deal whereas from the Headrow there's plenty and even if I get off at TGI Friday's on Welly Rd there's the Greggs near the new building thing that was going to be Criterion Towers but isn't now.

Leeds City Station NEEDS a Greggs....

2-3 weeks before end. Two months is too long.

I start to look even if it looks like extension is likely because A) Nice to have options and B) Its not sorted until its sorted.

Ideal time I reckon for client to sort renewals is one week before. Gives you a week or two to look around but not cutting it so close you're panicking....

Current client renews 3/4 weeks before end so I don't get time to look around. So its good in one way and bad in others.

Always wonder why a lot don't do this - it locks in the contractor then. No good leaving it until the day before and then whining that contractor has now got something else lined up instead.

Generally, 4 weeks before end date, but that is just when I begin to spruce up C.V. and try and remember passwords to job boards etc.!
All set for current gig to finish end of September, after 18 months, but they have just asked if I could stay until end of October instead, and that is only 3 weeks into 3 month extension! Oh well.....
