So what did you expect would happen? Confidential?? Is that the word you used? I'm not really surprised he did this TBH. Difficult to say if he was fishing or you shot yourself in the foot there.

      What a crap...
The correct answer to 4 is 'I've only just started looking so nowhere yet'

What's the problem to be confidential.

Wrong word. You've immediately developed a them and us situation. Explain that you've just started looking, or nowhere yet, that you're aware of, or if you're in progress with something, ask them where they intend sending your cv but don't mention that yours is with anyone (they lie, you lie; it's only fair).

Typically there are two reasons they ask this.

Firstly, they want to know where to send similar cvs to that are either better or cheaper than yours.
Secondly, they want to spam your cv around so need to know where it has been sent already and don't fall foul of exclusivity issues. First point far outweighs the second one.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't exist

Solution: always ask the agent to put down the offered rate in writing, in an email, before any interview. I always ask this now. This way the agent can't turn the whole thing against me, if there are disputes with the client. I had to learn this the hard way.
And record all phone calls you have with agencies as they often don't send the emails they promise.

This but I'd say it's not even down to just the word. If you try and act all smart to an agent and get it wrong you are going to look like a right dick and immediately not be the person he is relying on to make his commission for the next x months. Agents do this job day in day out. As smart as you think you are being he will know who's agent hating and not knowing why, which is exactly what that line comes across as.

Who will he put forward for a gig. Some guy who has spoken to him professional, knows his stuff, plays the game or some daft bugger who pretends they know it but clearly doesn't. If you are failing in front of the agent what do you think he thinks you are going to do in front of the client?

1- What about the solution for this?
2- What about the "professional" attitude from the agent of hunging up the phone? Do you want a person like this to represent you?
                      3- It's a trick or not.?
