Why the calls for Boris to resign?

Pragmatically, if BJ did decide to resign surely this would trigger a new leadership contest which could take us past Oct31?
Equally, the opposition do not want a GE.

If the PM DID resign then could we have no PM - is that possible? Because the "no no deal" law explicitly stipulates the PM must request an extension if no deal is reached by October 19. If there IS no PM, they don't have to request an extension.

    Possible?

He would still be acting PM until a successor was elected (or a GE resulted in a new govt). So that scenario doesn't apply.
His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain...

Because he lied to the Queen, his head should be on a spike.

Because the judiciary has declared the prorogation of parliament was unlawful. He is responsible for that action and his accessory lapdog JRM lied to the Queen.

        Both should resign immediately.

Is that by law or simply etiquette that a resigning PM retains the role? The text of the law says (IIRC) "Prime Minister" NOT "Acting Prime Minister".

Go back and read my question. I'm not asking why he should morally resign, but how it is in the interests of the Remain camp that he do so.

That's not how selecting a leader works in the Tory party, was there an election when May stepped down.

Acting means "Temporarily doing the job". So I doubt it will be an issue.

It is in the interests of everyone in the country the Tory party is consigned to the dustbin of history.

If he resigns he risks handing over the government to Labour without a GE. Now, we have heard other parties say they won't support a Corbyn government directly but I'm sure if Corbyn is so desperate to get the keys to No. 10 he would be willing to offer the LD's some concessions for their backing of his party.

Would be fairly easy for Corbyn ..... make the promise that he will extend A50 for 3 months. Get a deal (of sorts) from the EU in that time. After 3 months, put the deal back to the people on a Deal vs Remain vote.

Even some Tories would take that.

No, can't see Bojo's masters allowing him to resign with that threat out there
