Not bitter in the slightest, I don't enjoy living in hotels, no matter where they might be. About a month is my absolute limit. I am slightly annoyed that it's so much easier for EU citizens to work in the UK than it is for UK citizens to work in most of the EU.

I can work anywhere in the EU with absolutely no problems even when using my UK passport although it's much more convenient and politically better to use the German one....

While you can get a job only speaking English in Switzerland, you've a far better of chance of staying in work if you speak the local language. I already speak French and German - now I'm learning the local dialect. It can be a bit weird. The word for wristwatch is Gellereti - from the French "Quelle heure et-il?".

Normal, if EU citizens speak the language (or something close in my case) and Brits won't speak (or even make an effort to speak) any other language...

Despite that, English is a widely accepted language for work in most EU countries as I and others told you already.

But if you want to tell yourself that language is a barrier for Brits to work abroad, suit yourself...

I doubt those thousands or even millions of EU citizens working in Germany or Switzerland speak their language.

Brits don't need to speak a foreign language, since almost everyone else speaks English to some degree. Although we do need languages to compete in the EU, but we were taught absolute crap at school. I can just about say "the dog is in the church" in French, and what bloody use is that? I can order a beer in 6 languages at the last count though, including Arabic, which is somewhat ironic, wouldn't you say?
