We'll have plenty of extra fish, so with a bit of imagination the whole nation should be that bit healthier.
The UK tariff schedules lodged with the WTO are exact copies of the EU MFN tariff rates.

Although “we have no need to do so”, we actually are.

I think he means no checks on lorries that don't have immigrants trying to break into the UK .... we'll be checking lorries that have immigrants stashed away, as we'll be taking back control of our borders

No ADDITIONAL checks. As in, keeping things roughly as they are now.

Sounds good to me - plenty of cheap Continental booze and fags, eh?

Sold at the back of a lorry, literally.

We’re no longer in the Single Market, so our customs and import documentation is different and there are additional pages to be completed and checked.

Doesn’t add much to each lorry, just a minute or two.

5000 lorries per day, extra minute for each one. Even if you can’t do the maths, the Road Hauliers Association has done it. But what do they know, just experts hey?

You've got to look on the bright side, there'll be a glut of food in the EU - at least all those illegal immigrants will have something to eat.

Project Fear - It's not imports. It's exports that get hit

If our right wing government offers free trade then a) there would be no WTO complication as they would offer the same arrangements to everyone and b) nobody but nobody is going to turn down an instant 'you can bring in anything you like without UK barriers' deal.

So you can still get all you want of food, cars etc etc from right across the world including, of course, all of the EU. Brexit is all about taking down barriers.

(Of course exporting stuff anywhere is an entirely different matter but the people on here are not bothered about that kind of thing)

Oh absolutely, the UK unilaterally removing tariffs would be possible. Of course, as you point out, if we did that then there is no longer any incentive for any country in the world to negotiate an FTA - they would already have free access to the UK market.

There’s also the complication of destroying any local industry, tariffs can be used to protect sectors as well.

If we decide to change the rules we can remove that....

I am confused - so I assume these lorries will come with the same paperwork they come with now - e.g. they must have some sort of bill of lading.

Why would we want to make it more complicated after we left?
