Hey feckwit there have been no world wars after Robert Oppenheimer worked out how to turn a city into glass back in 1945, that made everyone realise that world war was very risky its known as Mutually Assured Destruction.

There have however been many local wars including a number of genocides in Europe, the EU have not been instrumental in stopping those so as usual is cobblers to assert the EU has had any serious effect on peace.

Think about it. All the major wars in Europe for the last 200 years were caused by either the French or the Germans deciding they wanted to run everything. Neither was successful. Eventually the penny dropped, and they realised that if they got together politically, they could carve up Europe between themselves, throw a few bones to the Italians, Spanish and Belgians, and everybody would be happy.
Now the cosy club is a bit bigger, and they need to throw more bones around the place, but now they've made sure they have enough power to slap down anyone who steps out of line. Essentially there can't be any European wars now that the Germans are in charge of the money, and the French are in charge of the weapons. Happy days...

Yes, we were on the winning side during the 2nd WW, but we certainly didn't do it on our own and we needed a whole lot of luck. We were lucky Hitler started wars on two fronts. We were lucky he decided to send most of his bombers over the UK and we were then lucky we had enough pilots (thanks to the Polish) to take down these bombers. We were then lucky the US chose to help us (at a big cost that we only recently paid off). We were lucky that Japan chose to attack the US at Pearl Harbour (up until then the Japanese were giving us a right spanking in SE Asia - Churchill abandoned Singapore to the Japanese as he knew we couldn't defend Asia and Europe).

So yes, we were on the winning side but WE did not win WW2. We, along with our allies, won the war. I know as an ex Squaddie you're biased, but we were running on luck. We took advantage of that luck, but we needed that luck nevertheless.

That's why they need a NAAFI, someone has to wave the white flags and volunteer as collaborators.

Err, they did exactly nothing. Well the French did something, they sold extra Exocet missiles to Argentina.

Goodbye EU, you worthless stinking pool of piss.

    HTH

They won't need to enhance their claim when Jezza is in No. 10. He will gladly hand them over, along with Gibraltar to Spain , and Northern Ireland to Ireland. Shortly followed by full independence for Scotland and Wales.

It is said that 99.7% of Austrians approved of the reunification - although it is also said that the vote may have been rigged.
