I am an IT contractor, I have UK limited company. I lived in the last year first in Ireland and then in Germany( 5 months). Now I am going to work in Belgium from January 2014, the contract is one year.
I was told that I can work up to 6 months under my UK ltd company, and then after that I will have to work under Belgium management company.
I am trying to understand what is my situation with regards to taxes. I spoke with my UK accountant and he said if I am not residing in UK I can claim non resident status and take everything as a salary and will not be liable for earning in UK.( this is good because Irish tax man does not chase me for tax , and neither will German taxman.
My problem I guess is more about my future contract in Belgium. If I claim non resident status in UK then will I automatically become resident in Belgium and hence will not pay tax in UK but in Belgium.
And a high tax of 50% is not really desirable.
I can not avoid paying tax in Belgium after six months but will not want to pay tax in Belgium from my first day.
Thanks for your help. I would like an advice what is the most tax efficient way, shall I declare my UK status as UK resident or UK non resident, to be most tax efficient.
