    Car-sharing - Any relief available?

I am looking into car-sharing going to and from a temporary place of work.

I will be travelling in my colleagues car and paying him about £8 per day for the privilege.

So my question is, am I able to claim this as travelling expenses? I cannot find anything on this subject about the tax implications.

I believe he would be claiming 45p per mile plus 5p per mile for a passenger so i would also imagine if i gave him £8 per day, this would be income and taxable on him personally.

Im more interested if i can claim this as an expense however.

Why do you need to pay him when he is already getting a financial benefit from his tax? How much is he getting exactly?

Tax benefit on £160 is not a lot to shout about really? Why not negotiate him down to a fiver using the argument he is already up on his tax benefit and then just be happy you are saving crap loads not using your own car? Fiver would only be £100 so tax benefit is even lower.

Sounds like a lot of effort for so little in return, particularly when the money you pay is for personal gain for you.
