As above its a franchise system, so find an accountant you feel comfortable with and go for it

My experience of two of them was that they were both capable enough but neither were clued up on small contractor set ups like us and lumped us in to the general business bracket so walked away. I had already been burnt by a one man band not understanding us so wasn't going to go there again.

Forget these guys and go for one of the contractor specialists. Much better IMO.

I did a thread with other peoples recommendations on it so you can see for yourself...

They are a franchise operation and you do not have to be qualified to operate through them, I know there are a lot of "accountants" who are not qualified but to me it should be a minimum to expect?

I agree with NLUK that they probably have no idea about contractors so buyer beware!

Sort of, the problem is you can be a qualified accountant and NEVER have worked in accountancy before.

Also you can be a pretty crap qualified accountant and an amazing unqualified accountant.

Also to note after working 10 years accounts, you can claim you are qualified by experience.

I would judge the person and how well you judge there competency more than the badges they wear.

                Who says that?

I can agree that there are some good unqualified accountants and bad qualified accountants, but at least with a qualified accountant you have some recourse to complain to.

I would say always go for a firm that is regulated by a professional body like ICAEW, ACCA as there are rules and regulations that they must follow.

This is no gurantee they will be good but you can make a compliant to there professional body.

There are also some excellent QBE accountants out there.

So the main thing is to try and get a feel for the accountant you want and the service they offer.

the only way to do that is by contacting a few.

Choosing the right accountant does make life much easier so some of my clients have said

And as other threads on this forum show those complaints seem to work so well.
