By all means moan about the service they deliver, but the expenditure is trivial.
Isn't one of our aims to squeeze every last penny out of our income?

That meal I had the other day is trivial, why am I saving the receipt, or the 40p/mile is trivial over a 40 mile journey so why bother?

£900 (inc) vs £1512 (inc) is a bigger difference than most people switch utility companies for.

1 man band accounting is really not difficult - DIY FFS.

I'll do it for half that - PM me if interested.

Decorating isn't that difficult either but I prefer someone else to do it.

I've been doing my own VAT returns and bookkeeping for years. It's rather easy to be honest.

I use an accountant at the end of the year to draw up the accounts, do my self assessment & corporation tax. Costs me £400 at the end of the year.

Companies like SJD must love new & lazy contractors.

SJD are excellent and I've defended them many times on this forum. But I'm not convinced about their cost, as against Nixon Williams @ £75 per month. The amount of support I've needed from SJD has decreased over the years as I've gained experience and the price might be at the point where I'm prepared to jump ship and take an extra day's holiday a year with the saving.

But no complaints at all about their excellent service!

WHS. But I think an accountant is not somebody you want to be choosing on price, because inevitably somebody who claims to be providing the same service for less is cutting some corners somewhere.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

                Indeed

Stuff that. Excessive for 2 hours worth of work max. My accountant charges 500 for the annual report and CT and I do the rest. They are a CPA also.

Never gone with that premise. Vectra are you really a women?

By wife and mother in law always go with 'you get what you pay for' hence the reason they always pay over the odds for the same goods/services they could have got down the road.

The point is, nobody's right or wrong. You're not a wimp for using an external accountant, but equally you're not a hero by doing it yourself, assuming you can keep up with the regualr law changes and don't make mistakes. You run your business the way that suits you.

But the cost of the accountant is actually utterly irrelevant to the decision.

                      Why?
