    PI Insurance and Sub-Contractors

I have a question regarding PI cover and the use of sub-contractors.

I (Ltd Company A) enter into a contract with a Client, and that contract stipulates that my company maintains adequate PI cover to a certain amount.

To fulfil this contract, I sub-contract all of the work to another contractor through their own Ltd company. This contractor has adequate PI cover. However, is ensuring any sub-contractor that I use has adequate PI cover enough, or should my company (Company A) also have adequate PI cover that *also* covers the use of sub-contractors?

Is this solely a contractual thing? i.e., it's up to the client what they consider to be adequate or is there a good reason for Company A to have PI cover with sub-contractor cover as well? (lets assume I have normal PI cover but it doesn't cover the use of sub-contractors as there is obviously a need for PI cover when I'm not using a sub-contractor).

If anybody has any advice, feel free to chip in, but FWIW I just had a chat with somebody at Caunce O'Hara who, after explaining the unique way in which I and several other developers work (i.e. we act as a co-operative group (not in a legal sense) as well as running our own Ltd companies and we sub-contract our company's services through a parent company (Company A) on a non-exclusive basis and the contract is between Company A and the client), he was able to point me in the direction of more suitable PI cover that would cover this kind of situation:
