    Councils often pay per day of the month - if you are wise to this, and leaving you dont have your last day on the friday - you make sure your last day (notice wise is a Sunday. Equally, if you are on strike for a day, they deduct 1/7 of a week's money.
    Sounds to me like they started off doing that calc (with a mistake) then changed to 2.5 days. That way, they need to use 3.5!!(half a week - then it will be ok)
    Only way of proving this to them - do the calcs for a 5 day week! They might understand that
    Alternatively escalate. Get manager, show them calcs - esp for a FTE, or involve union if possible! Involving local paper could be career limiting.
