Is it worth setting up a limited company if...

    Hi,

I'm planning to do a short stint of contracting for 4-5 months before going to freelance in Austrailia for a year.

Is it worth setting up a Ltd company just for this short period? Will the complications of handling the company at the end of the tax year be a hassle when I'm already in Austrailia? Or would it be possible to somehow freelance under my company whilst in Austrailia and pay UK tax instead of Austrailian tax?

I'm thinking that it maybe easier to register as self-employed / umbrella company and go that route.

    Any help would be appreciated...

    Cheers.

Not worth the Ltd Co set up costs, closing the company down and end of year accounts cost plus VAT registration hassle.

You'd be better going with an umbrella or staying as a permie.
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

If you are contracting in the UK for 4 months then it is not going to be worth doing the limited co route. You will still need to pay a whole year's worth of accountancy fees.

I have no knowledge of this particular arena, but I would be astonished if you could use your UK ltd in OZ.

I think that the best option for your situation is to use the Umbrella <SHUDDERS> I feel a bit dirty now </SHUDDERS>

I'd go umbrella, LTD is usually 12 month minimum. Try these MyPay, think they are under twenty boys a week!
