    Also worth noting that if your payment is less than £1500, you can opt to pay quarterly. If you don't state the period on the details, the payment will be allocated to the next available period, then you will start to get reminder notices for the last quarter.
    I received one, which I called HMRC about, a month later I get a reminder, I call again, they had only allocated the payment to a month and not a quarter.

    The advice was, make payments monthly even if it is for a small amount. Hmmm, electronic payments quarterly should be easier to manage than monthly payments made on paper - oh well, thats progress in the wonderful world of the Civil Service I suppose
