LOL @ the concept of IT contractors having their own set of WAGS - with wannabe WAGS hanging around the IT section of Waterstones, PC World, or perhaps a Microsoft conference, wearing slutty clothes in an effort to get noticed before homing in on their prey.

....and there I was at Tech Ed 2007 when I caught her clocking my name badge and asking for my email address. My glasses steamed up as she bent down and her low cut top revealed a bit too much....
"So, are you a contractor?" she asked breathily, fluttering her eyelashes, "ooh I like your chinos and that new Visual Studio 2008 polo shirt. Mail me."

ok, thankyou very much for all your replies. been most helpful. Let me clarify further!

She is a company secretary. i have 99% or 100% of the shares. I pay myself dividends which go into our joint account, but the account i have always kept in overdraft.

I have asked my agency to hold future payments, until i know what im doing, ie. opening another company, or letting this one run. if i open another company then i assume it will have to be under parents name otherwise if its under my name, then we are back to square 1 as courts will see company as my asset.

She is also getting maternity pay, will she still be entitled to my money. i dont have a problem paying for my child, but not for her and her money grabbing scum family! in a way i feel she wins both ways, if i dont provide her with a house, this stupid government will give her a council house as a single parent.

      Thanks

My wife and her family are blackmailing me to buy a house, otherwise divorce my wife. we share a 6 month old baby boy and my wife has gone back to her parents house. Previously we were living together with my parents, which my wife cannot stand.

Now, im not stupid enough to realise all they want is money from me, either in form of house, or via maintenace if i reject and it comes to divorce.

              My questions

Im a Ltd company, with wife as company secretary. what advice in terms of Ltd company?
I dont have property. i had a car, which ive transferred in my sisters name.
i also have 7k stashed in ISA's. Nothing plus in our current joint accounts.
What do i do? Open a new company in parents names?

I have to give my wifes family an answer within coming weeks whether i accept thier demands or they start legal proceedings.. What has the world come to!!
Get divorced. From here, it can only get worse.

Fire her as company secretary - doesn't make much impact on what the company pays etc. (unless she is paid for it), but you can fire her so you may as well.

Did that happen to you too? I feel so cheap and used now - she made me feel I was special.

                  cuppa soup and a tent!
Some people are like slinkys, totally pointless but the thought of pushing them down a flight of stairs never fails to put a smile on your face.

Guys - no one here knows the whole story. What if this contractor is a mummy's boy and wants to live with his parents forever because he prefer's his ma's cooking or likes to cuddle up to his parents at night. I'm sure that would p1ss most wives off!! Maybe she doesn't even want to get divorced but the mother-in-law has driven her to this state in some way.

I'm not saying that is the case but we don't know the full story. I think this contractor is a bit of a loser to end up in this position. He has no cash and no assets - has he been giving his entire earnings to his parents all this time? What life was he intending to make for his wife and child?

True. It sounds to me like the parents from both sides of the marriage are not entirely blameless. Mind you, if you have the choice between buying a house and getting divorced, it's not an easy one - I'd get divorced out of the two, since you're stuffed anyway. That said <smug mode>I wouldn't be in this position</smug mode>.
