It did actually cost me >£100 to get business use, but that was because I was on a special import/performance car policy that didn't have an option to cover it so had to start anew with a different policy.
Can you claim the extra as an expense? Years ago I went on a business trip using my own car, and my employer paid the extra for me to get insured business use.
You can, but it will be subject to BIK tax as the mileage allowance you should be paying yourself covers the extra insurance costs.
