orangegenie or nixon williams for ltd company

I think I have learnt quite a bit from these forums about contracting. Thanks for that.

I have shorten the list to 2 vendorsrangenie or nixon williams for LTD company accountancy.

orangegenie http://www.orangegenie.com/ltdco_services.htm now are doing the same things as any other accountant like SJD etc with their limited company services.

there cost is 105 + VAT. This includes

professional indemnity + EL + PL insurance.
you can keep their address as registered address without any charge.
they are going online within a week so all bookkeeping is online.
    they form the company free.

all this comes in one package.

although nixon williams cost is low for accounting but with additional insurances the cost becomes similar to orangenie especially as my Professional indemnity is 500000.

the only feedback that I am lacking in making a decision is contractors experience with orangegenie or whether I should be not looking at this route due to the new legislation.

    Appreciate your feedback and comments.

If the Revenue decide that Orangegenie is an MSC provider under the new rules rather than a provider of accountancy services (which they may well if they were an MSC provider before the new rules) then regardless of your contract terms or working practices you will be caught by the MSC legislation and liable to pay full PAYE and NIC (including employers) on all your earnings.

If you go with a company who are a firm of accountants and have never been a scheme provider you will be considered to be outside the scope of the MSC legislation. You will still have to abide by the IR35 rules of course.

Tell you what I can't find out yet though. Will the 3rd party debt recovery legislation only be applicable to MSCs as defined by the new regs or will it be applicable to PSCs and other companies too? That's a scary thought..........

      Hi,

After shopping around quite a lot I went with Nixon Williams and they have been great so far. Fast efficient service and very helpful with any queries and questions.

      Would reccomend them very highly.

I have just moved from orangegenie (umbrella) to Nixon Williams and started my own Ltd, I don't think there’s any comparison when it comes to being in control and getting a better deal.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

I've recently set up my LTD with Nixon Williams and have to say that they have been very helpful so far. I came close to deciding to do all my own returns etc, but the peace of mind and the avoidance of paperwork hassles in exchange for a small monthly fee is a bargain in my opinion. It does represent excellent value for money versus my time.

This isn't to the detriment of the other accountants using this board though, I'm sure (know) there are others on here offering high quality services. Read everything and shop around - it can't do any harm.

I found this forum invaluable when I began to think about self employment. Without the sage advice of many of the regular posters I would have probably ended up going with my agent's recommendation (Giant). I'm so glad I didn't go down that road, so a big Thank You to y'all.

Yes I second that one. A big thanks to the “ones in the know”. It is admirable how some devote so much energy to help others. Yes, many times they are rough and spank the newbies, but we all know that this is for their own good ( the newbie’s).

                  Thank you for the comments.

In my view you have to be in control of your own company to avoid possible issues with the MSC rules, so this means:

                  1. Director and shareholder of your own company
                  2. Total control over the company bank account
                  3. Issuing your own invoices etc.
                  4. Providing your own insurance cover

We provide (as we have done for the past 12 years) an accountancy/tax service for contractors and consultants using their own limited company. We have never offered a MSC or umbrella option.

                  Alan
