    Redundancy payout

Not contracting, but hope someone has been through this.

My wife has just been made redundant and has received a decent payout. However, the amount above 30k has been taxed as if it is a months pay, so some at 40%. I’m sure this is correct.

She does not intend to return to work, so will she have to wait until the end of the tax year (I.e. nearly 12 months) to receive her tax rebate, or can she apply to HMRC now?

(I could employ her through MyCo for a nominal salary and she would then receive the tax rebate in monthly chunks as the situation unwinds itself!)

The good news is that, in my albeit fairly limited experience, HMRC deal with the tax reclaims pretty promptly too.
