    Kingsbridge IR35 Insurance

I've been recommended Kingsbridge Insurance to protect myself and my client in the event of an IR35 investigation.
Q: anyone current a customer with them? would they like to refer me to them.

Recommended by who? The agent? I probably wouldn't go with them on that basis alone even if they are OK.

And, why are you taking on a policy to indemnify your client?

It's a policy that just happens to cover the fee payer as well.

Cover for taxes, interest and penalties for IR35 investigations. The policy flexes to protect the party held liable by HMRC in an IR35 investigation, whether this is you or your fee payer.

By an acquaintance who is an IR35 Consultant who knows a fair bit about the legislation. He's been advising me on being outside of IR35 status

            Really?

Who is responsible for the decision post April 6th?

And why when you have no say in the decision do you need insurance and it's not your responsibility?

Fee payer doesn't necessarily mean the end client, whose seat your bum is on.

              See: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/fee-paye...-working-rules

Does your friend really know all that much about the legislation?

That's my bad for assuming fee payer was the client. My friend advised it for me not the client, when I saw fee payer I assumed it meant client. Oh forgot to say, I have a direct contract no agency involved

The client is responsible for the decision, since I'm on a direct contract it's good to know outside IR35, my friend is merely advising me on what outside IR35 means.

You need to consider what eek has said. Come April, it is up to the client to make the decision. If their decision is wrong, it is their problem to fix so why are you indemnifying your client for their decision making?

There is a very clear chain of responsibility and you're not part of it. The client makes the decision and the fee payer makes the deductions. That they are one and the same in your case makes it easier but it doesn't change much.

TL;DR it's not you who needs to take out insurance
