It's not offensive. It's just got a very long history. Just a suggestion for him seems he's sick to the back teeth of it being mentioned that's all.

It's up to you. There is really no point having it and continues the tradition you are complaining about so seems pretty stupid to keep it but if you don't wanna fix it then that's your call. Was just a genuine suggestion to try help.
