PCG membership, then use the discounted scheme. £200 for £1m - best on the market.

Qdos Consulting offer Employers Liability and Public Liability insurance as well as a number of other insurance products aimed at Freelancers/Contractors. I recall receiving an email from them recently about a new PI insurance product for IT contractors.

Have found staff friendly and helpful.

Starts at £150 for PI, and £55 for EL/PL. OK, we don't really need EL, but the other two are already more expensive than the PCG's £201 start point. You'd need to compare actual cover to be certain which is the better value.

I think its important to note which insurances you legally must hold. For a one-man band company, you don't need to hold any insurances if you're a typical always on-site contractor.

Your contract may specify some insurances but I don't know of any contractor personally who has PI insurance as no insurance has ever had to pay out on one.

Right - so you're going to disregard your contractual obligations? Not a good start...

You may be right, but I feel more comfortable having at least PI (I play with people's working practices and careers, so perhaps I'm a bit more vulnerable than the average coder) and PLI, just in case: cause an accident at a client site, you may still have to pay compensation. And we're looking at around a day's income a year for most people - hardly excessive.

For a Ltd Co I thought PL was a legal requirement.
Since you don't have employees you don't nec need EL
PI is down to your attitude to risk or it may be a contractual requirment.
