Welcome to CUK!
If you have been lurking around CUK (and if you haven't I would recommend a glance in the professional forums AND General) you might have noticed one or two of the regular become a tad tetchy (or from your point of view, rude) over some of the threads that newbies have...
You can give it a go using the Search in the website, but don't expect much.
Google is your friend for this.
Just add "site:forums.contractoruk.com" at the end of your search terms, and it will only look on here.

Hi - I'm considering accepting a first contractor role but also have a permanent offer to consider.
I know If I choose the contractor option I will need to consider IR35 and get an accountant but does anyone have an idea as to roughly how much I would get after tax deductions on £1000 a week?
I took the leap from perm to contract 3 months ago, and thought I would put down my experience to help and hopefully encourage others who are thinking of doing the same!
I work in mainly IT 3rd line teams, project engineer, BAU and stuff like that .
Firstly I wish I had saved...
Hey all, first time here.
So, I have been a perm employee all my life, and now have an opportunity to do contract instead, and become self employed. I would be contracted for a single company, and essentially invoice them once a month for a fixed amount (salary like) and any incurred expenses. ...
In recent weeks my world of being a 'Permie' has been turned upside down by an offer to go IT Contracting in Belgium and I am now at my first major crossroads.
The idea of contracting has always appealed to me and although I wasn't actively looking, the feeling to 'change path' was...
Having recently been made redundant from my permie position of 16 years I've now thought the time is right to move into the contracting arena. If I don't do it now, probably never will...
I have actually just completed my 1st contract where a client contacted me directly via...
this is my first post here, my name is Enrico and I would like to ask a couple of questions because I have some doubts about contracting environment in London.
I have bachelor and master degree in Computer Engineering (if it matters) and 2.5 years working experience in IT (1 and half...
Just wondering how people here go about dealing with agencies and the jobs posted on the boards by the agencies. Do you ever contact them or just apply via the boards.
can anyone recommend good agencies for a first timer ?
Hello, a first timer here:)
I have recently taken on a 6 month contract with a firm in business development. I work 2 days a week.
Recently they put me up on their website with my picture as a sales person.
I am not comfortable with this as I feel this makes me look part of the company, a...
Just popping past to say hello. I've been a lurker for a while and thought I'd register.
I'm currently planning towards setting up a little one man band consultancy on my area of tech so I've been reading all the first timer posts and all the information that I've been able to...
Just wanted to introduce myself (and try very hard not to break any advertising rules!)
I have worked as an accountant specialising in the contractor sector for 4 years and have just returned from an 18 month break.
So I have joined to get myself up to date with often quick changing...
After searching, I thought I may as well ask the question...Are there any non-IT contractors on here and is any part of the forum dedicated to these?
Also, does anyone know a good link or site that gives realistic estimates of contractor day rates equivalent to a given permie rate?
Anybody know why that is?
I am Chris, just joined the forum, and wanted to say hi.
Have been in the UK for 12 years now, working in London for the past 10 years.
I am a currently a Lead Architect (Java stack) / Agile Coach in a Tier-1 IB and thinking that it's about time I tried contracting.
Just thought I'd say hi to everyone and to introduce myself.
Thanks for reading!
My first post - Hello!
Sorry if this has been asked before but I've been reading a few threads and done a couple of searches and can't quite find the answer.
As a newcomer to contracting I wanted to make sure my web searches for contracts cover as much of the market as possible....
My first post.... here goes
How can I begin my first contract as a contractor on a day rate? Really need to get out of doing what I am at the moment. PAYE slave! Easiest first steps to freedom. Any decent starter courses or fields I need to look at.
How do I look for gigs and where?
I've been a long time lurker here on CUK but mostly felt might be time to start posting here
In April of 2016 I was terminated from a Corporate Radiation Safety Officer job that I held for 14 years. One night after work my assistant and I went to dinner to discuss task for the upcoming year. Since he is working from Ohio and I am in Texas I don't always know what he is doing. I asked...
