PS. There is an Umbrella Section of the forums for these questions. I am sure a MOD will do the needful shortly.

Yes, time to jump. No, faith in this outfit any more; there is more to follow!

I know they do a great pitch , but any genuine company will not be pushy and will simply explain how a compliant umbrella operates, no gimics and no higher take home claims!

Best piece of advice is to ask them to talk about legislation... any reputable company will be able to quote the actual legislation which applies to the industry and talk you through it, their knowledge should give you comfort that they know exactly what they are doing with your money!

Second piece of advice; average take home is between 52-56% take home, get the quote in writing and ask for further details on how they operate. Do check out the small print!

Third piece of advice; check out the company reputation, CUK gives an unbiased view of companies out there and is a pretty good place to start!

The last sales drone that cold called me about these schemes, I successfully kept them on the phone for over an hour. The idiot was telling me that the loan I would get was identical in all respects to one I could get from my bank. I guess there is a very small grain of truth there. When they made their second call to me trying to close out on the deal and sign me up, I couldn't keep them on the phone so long. I think the penny finally dropped what I was doing.

A friend of mine is a former client of theirs and can recommend not using them, as he felt as soon as there was a self-assessment check he was more or less on his own - he's working through a LTD company now.

If there is mention of self-assessment via an umbrella then rethink things. Any work undertaken with a "true" brolly will not need self-assessment for the assignment you undertake with them (exc. any expense claims, which would have to be done by yourself and not the brolly).
