How about a sticky for online learning resources for IT skills?

Another very unimportant issue but just interested and this thread can't be any duller than all the EU stuff in general.
I use Bing maps a lot and sometimes find it brings up a location completely different to my own. Today I am in Carlisle. It isn't IP address, I checked that and it shows I'm...
Please help me choose a new laptop. Here are the requirements:
Weight not important (I only carry it to the car and back)
I'm on the lookout for a new PC mainly for the Mrs and kids to use for surfing, homework etc, i.e. nothing too strenuous like gaming.
Basic requirements are Windows, ultra-quiet PSU, SSD bootup and separate 1Gb+ data drive. Monitor I'll buy separately. I don't really care what else so...
Just built up a new PC and I need to move all the data across from the old one. Wondered if anyone here has recently been through this process and might have a handle on the best way to approach it ? Machines are connected by ethernet, old pc is W7 Pro, new is W10E if it makes any...
I have edited my .pdf file couple of hours ago. Then I opened it again and Adobe Acrobat 11.0 viewed - File does not begin with %PDF. This issue disappointed me; I don't know what to do next. Please, any help.
Help me out fellow Freelancers and Contractors.....
My old laptop is on its way out, and I have just bought myself a replacement. It comes loaded with Windows 10 HOME, and I am giving consideration to taking it back down to Windows 7 because Windows 7 looks better (I hate the real thin scroll...
I have a series of rows, first column should be Month/Year, however it always translates to day/month/year in any calculations.
I would like the date to be calculates based on one month after the cell above, I could use today()+31 but obviously that wont work on every month, is there a simple...
I am about as good with SQL server as I am with a rowing boat. :o
I have two tables:-
-> Has a UNIQUE ID, say TABLE1_ID
-> Has a column containing an ID from TABLE2 say TABLE2_ID
$date = Get-Date ($_.LastWriteTime)
returns the date as a number, how would I get it to return JAN/FEB/etc?
$date = Get-Date -format D ($_.LastWriteTime)
Doesn't seem to work
I have a pair of Netgear AV500 home plugs, do I need to find another of the same type if I want to extend their usage?
I'm looking for a solution which can allow me to load in the region of 400 million wide rows per year. There will be about 30 columns which will be used for analytical purposes.
Any ideas on a possible implementation of this? Needs to be an affordable (most likely open source) solution.
Anyone been following the launch, got any thoughts?
The price jump from £250 to £300 moves it outside what I'd call a budget phone but it sounds like you get a lot for your money.
I posted a few months ago that my EE Osprey Mini 4G MiFi device was having issues. Fairly regularly I'd lose the internet connection even though the device itself claimed to have a strong 4G connection; the only solution was to reboot the device which always worked perfectly until the next time......
Just want to make sure I'm not missing a trick. In buying a new desktop, suppliers are charging ~£90 for Windows 10 Home. Would I save by buying the OS from elsewhere, legit of course :smile ?
Kind of a bit late in the day thinking about buying this but I realise it was probably a mistake not getting it in the first place. Need something until battlefield 1 comes out in October.
Question is it still a game worth getting on Xbox 1?
Skype works pretty well but I can't find any way to send DTMF tones as part of the dialled number e.g. 08001234567,,,,,,1234# for dialling conference calls.
Any suggestions for alternatives?
Recently got a lecture on how noSQL is far better than relational databases and that it must be the model we adopt in our development. The guy who came to me for a technical solution rated the guy quite highly but he just appears to be a geek with no business sense and no commercial experience. I...
Just installed some Ubiquiti APs at home, including one in an annex which is separate from the main house (about 10 meters away).
Currently I have some Cat5 cable running from the main house to the annex (down the external side of the house, then in some conduit under the driveway. The AP is...
Following on from a previous discussion (http://forums.contractoruk.com/technical/113731-prevent-mifi-device-ee-osprey-2-mini-detecting-lack-use-powering-down.html)
I've narrowed my choice down to 3 items, I think, for another week spent in Cornwall where there is no broadband and I need to...
Any good tools for generating xml getting data from a database?
This is SQL Server. I am looking at using tsql commands.
It is clearly doable - though sqlserver has some interesting considerations(duplicate rows etc.)
