  1. Any Slingbox users here?

I'm looking at getting a basic Slingbox to stream my Sky box to my laptop or for daughter when she's at Uni. I can understand how it works but I can't work out how the IR remote on the Slingbox actually controls the IR input to control the Sky box, is it fibre optic or something? Thanks. Also...

  3. Laptop: Dust trapped behind screen

I use a laptop with an external keyboard, mouse and monitor and very occasionally use it as a 'proper' laptop when away from my desk and never travel with it. The other day, I opened the lid and noticed some dust on the screen which looks like the dust attracted by static. It was in a 'pile'...

  5. Background hiss on Skype

Has anyone else experienced this and managed to get rid of it. Have tried adjusting the audio settings on the laptop to no avail. I'm using the inbuilt mike on the laptop. Have googled but no decent answers.

  6. Skype extra features

I was looking to get a Skype phone number; you can pick which country it's in so this seems a cool way to provide a business phone number in the USA for my plan B. As part of this you have to choose your state and area code... as a tech company CA seems best but does it matter one jot which area...

  7. Google Chromebook

BBC News - Is Google's Chromebook the future of computing? Could be very interesting if they go for <200 (they're expected to be $199 in the US), I see PC world are straight in there offering them at 350+. If google are serious about getting a big market share they need to be...

  8. Warning for Android developers

Know a few of you here do, so make sure you use your Android phone to search for your app on the market at regular intervals. Today I found mine was not appearing although it was ok on the PC using the same account. It seems a few have had this problem. The solution is to make a trivial change...

  9. Iphone SMS GPS Coordinates

Hi, Anybody know if it's possible on a vanilla Iphone to get the GPS location of where a text message was sent from. My wife's in a dispute with work, and it would be handy to prove where she was when she sent it. Thanks.

  13. Anyone used GRUB with Windows 7

I was wondering if GRUB worked reliably with Windows 7. Microsoft has a knack of accidently on purpose stiching up linux/unix facilities to be incompatible with Windows, certainly any with an aspect of "unix controlling Windows". (Naturally, the other way round is fine.)
