Trying to set up some sort of continual intergration, I have CrusieControl set up and installed working fine, with the is the main config.xml which defines the projects. This in turn calls a build.xml which checks the code out of a SourceControl repository (SVN if if mattes), this works fine....

  3. Windows 7 "Genuine (Dis)Advantage"

I recently logged on to a Windows 7 system which had had the cable accidentally disconnected for a couple of weeks or so and found that it was bleating about activation. I didn't bother doing the activation at the time, got o with my work and left it for a couple of days. Hey presto! The next...

  4. .NET MVC - rated or slated?

Seen quite a few roles asking for MVC these days. My first impressions of it are that the markup looks like classic ASP (i.e. a step backwards) and makes the the code-behind more complicated than it really needs to be. Anyone had any experience or is a convert? QB.

  5. Compressing A 75Mb File

I want to send a 75Mb video file (no, not that sort) to family abroad. Obviously with the fear of blowing the guts out of my email system are there any good packages I could use to compress this into a more manageable size, or do I have to resort to the copy to a cd method ? TIA.

  6. USB cable with two connectors

Got a Core backup device recently which has no instructions. Not really necessary as you just plug it in and it works but the USB plug has another USB cable coming off it. What's that for exactly when you get two USB plugs on one device? Just curious really. Cheers.

  7. vBulletin and forum spam

I've been asked about ways to limit the number of spammers that seem to register and post on a phpbb forum, and whether vBulletin is a worthwhile alternative. I know vBulletin is a pretty popular alternative, but are the anti-spam measures really any different/better? What does this forum do? Is...

  10. Git v Mercurial

If an interviewer asked you to compare and contrast git versus Mercurial what would you say? I haven't used either very much. But my impression is that Mercurial is slightly simpler, whereas git is a bit more flexible. What if the interviewer threw SVN into the pot, and asked you to comment...

  12. Display GUI in custom activity (Windows Workflow Foundation)

Has anyone done this? Basically I need a runtime forms designer as part of a custom activity. Not too fussed about this part, but actually displaying the form, capturing the content as part of the custom activity is the part I am puzzling over. I can put the workflow into a wait state, and...

  19. Laptop: Dust trapped behind screen

I use a laptop with an external keyboard, mouse and monitor and very occasionally use it as a 'proper' laptop when away from my desk and never travel with it. The other day, I opened the lid and noticed some dust on the screen which looks like the dust attracted by static. It was in a 'pile'...
