Default New Phone Needed

What recommendations can the guru's on here give me, I want to be able to access a googlemail account and a hotmail account via wifi preferably, so I'm thinking Blackberry Pearl 8120 or the new iPhone.

Thoughts

iPhone if you're OK with the contract - there's much more to it than most people realise, due to the enhanced network-related functionality, which no other platform has.

Sorry for piggbacking on this thread but does anyone know what the typical data usage is for surfing tinterweb on a mobile? Not you tube or downloading music, just posting tulip here or reading news sites etc

TIA

Wait for the Blackberry Bold to come out. It will have Wifi, 3G, IIRC Quad-band and some other fancy functions as well. Ok, it's not the same as the IPhone, but should be available on a number of networks. Nothing against the 8120 though. Not convinced with the IPhone... a bit overpriced and immature for my needs. I am going to give it a couple of more years and see if they broker agreements with other telco providers before considering the product.

Very unimpressed with my wife's new Nokia N95 8Gb phone. Particularly, the sat nav sucks (very slow, poor interface with terrible un-intuitive menu structures and struggles to find satellites etc) AND you have to pay Nokia £8 a month extra to use the sat nav function. Avoid this one IMO.

Seems like the only people that are happy with their N95's are those that have ripped out the OS and replaced it with another. There was a thread on how to do this here a while ago.

Yeah - the N95 8GB with the latest OS is good - also use google maps app on it, way better than the Nokia thingie and free.

It's a great phone with one major failing - the battery on it absolutely sucks.

The three website has an estimator on their mobile broadband site which might help.

I got an HTC TyTN II (aka Vodafone v1615, HTC Kaiser, etc) see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_TyTN_II or http://www.vodafonebusinessshop.co.u...1615-2964.html.

It's got 3G, HSDPA, GPS, WiFi, BT, ABC, 123, you name it. I can also use it as a modem to connect my laptop to t'internet (which I don't believe the iPhone does - yet)

Retails c£400 SIM-free but I got it for nowt on an 18 month Vodafone contract.

(another good thing that swayed me is that the SIM card is easily accessible so I can put the SIM into my car phone without faffing about)
