Why tie yourself into the Apple universe for no reason (with potentially fragile kit as well) or use something that is not designed for the job in hand?

Heard the one about the IT specialist and the balloonist...?

An iPod doesn't tie you into the Apple universe and reason is that the iPod UX is probably the best out there. That's why iPod was so popular... it was really really good.

Picked up a AGPtek A02 8GB MP3 player from Amazon just before xmas to use at clientco (just before I manged to negotiate working from home).

        -linky-

Seems to work well, better with some decent headphones though. Plays FLAC too which is nice.

Looked at the Kubik Evo but was put off by a lot of negative reviews on Amazon.

Fair enough. Ours works perfectly and I don't care about the clunky controls since we don't use them: it just sits there on the USB port and wakes up when the motorhome radio does (or the hire car in Tenerife recently...) . Which is all I want it to do.

And yes, I know iPods are good, we've got one that's years old. That only picks up stuff from iTunes: later ones may not.

Hahaha, OK bit of a cluster**** here, I bought the bluetooth version of the Kubik Evo.
Then discovered that my bluetooth kit doesn't support MP3 players, 'phones only.
Then discovered the LR cable is a 3.5mm, Evo has a 2.5mm socket. adaptor in post from ebay...

            You may call me (once!)

iTunes is not typing you into the Apple Universe anymore than Windows Media Player is tying you into the Zuniverse

People still buy separate MP3 players?!

I thought since the explosion of iPhones and then other smart phones MP3 players would have died out.

That's kind of the problem, not much effort goes into them although on the other hand you'd think it's a solved problem by now. A car-friendly UI is the important bit.

                    I have a separate MP3 player - though it's about 5 years old now.

My main use for it is if I want to go running in down pour then I don't give a tulip if it gets soaked and broken - it hasn't in 5 years. In addition it is small and light as a matchbox but my phone is bigger.
