    Anyone tried this as an option for a free SSL certificate?

    From the site;

    Along with the challenges, the Let’s Encrypt CA also provides a nonce that the agent must sign with its private key pair to prove that it controls the key pair.

    Bit unfortunate terminology.....

    I've got certificates from them on my websites.
    No problems so far.

    Reading the blurb it seems you need to install the client on your webserver, is that right? I though I could just generate the certificate locally and get my hosting provider to upload it?

    The certificates they provide are quite short lived (90 days).
    You can generate a certificate manually but you would be better off setting up the ACME client to renew the certificates automatically.

    You can also get a completely free 3 year cert from startcom if you don't want to set up LE.
