    Computer turning itself on

For the last little while I've been thinking my PC has an issue powering down - I keep pressing the power button and walking off, then finding it still running hours later. I thought maybe it was restarting rather than shutting down or something.

But yesterday (twice) I shut it down, for certain - all the lights went off, the fans stopped, dead as a dead parrot - and then came back later to find it was on again.

It's NOT shutting down to standby (where you can hit a key and it comes back to life) it's definitely turning off (technically hibernating).

I didn't even think my PC had the capability to turn itself on from this state - boot over ethernet or something like that. It never used to and I haven't changed anything, is it possible there could be a malicious cause?

Check for a wake on LAN setting; possibly in the BIOS these days.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

What VM said, or a dodgy power button / wiring to the MB

        I think I know what's wrong with it. It's not a Mac.

Are you not shutting it down using the Start Menu... Power? If you're just doing I by pressing the button, then depending on the machine they sometimes have 3 different meanings of the press, depending on how long you hold it for - standby/off/restart.
But personally, I will only use the button to switch off if it will not shut down any other way.
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

All good suggestions except that nothing has changed and it has for years worked fine. And it is definitely powering down to full-off state, not just rebooting.

A faulty switch seems it could be possible though you have to push it quite a long way in.

Wake by LAN I considered but wonder why it would only be doing it now. Is it possible this was always on but only recently someone/something has started triggering it... could that be malicious?

            Thanks for the ideas.

Time for a new one then?

It's probably Alzheimers and you can't remember turning it on, you have also posted this thread 10 times in the last few months.

If your computer is turning itself on, it's probably watching porn when it thinks you aren't looking.
