    Escaping the Iphone cycle

    is it possible? Worthwhile?

Have been trapped in the apple release cycle since the Original 3G, have quite a hefty itunes match and app collection, currently using a 5s and time to upgrade

something intriguing about the prospect of jumping ship though but.......its hard yaknow?

Anyone made it out from the darkside?

Why do you need to change your phone?

It's not a question of brand, etc, but if you don't NEED to change your phone, then change your contract so that instead of paying off a loan for the phone, you are just paying for your calls. If your contract with phone was £30 a month, without might be £10.

Mobile phone "upgrades" are just a big con.

Are you unhappy with the 5S? If not, what would a new phone do that it doesn't? Is it just version envy driving you to upgrade?

I did switch from an iPhone 5 to a One PlusOne. Didn't have a huge iTunes library or loads of apps though. Was relatively painless once I got the phone set up tweaked how I wanted it. Google will try and assimilate you just as much as Apple do if you let it.

I seriously considered it, but the (relative) security of the Apps Store und the longevity of the units (2 phones in 7 years) made me stay with Apple.

With the number of exploits for Android which exist, the lack of OS updates in the Android world is a serious concern.

Does anyone know of a cheap and cheerful phone which isn't Android or Apple? I'm happy with an iPad for on the go computing and really don't need the functionality of a fully fledged smartphone, but there really isn't much choice out there.

CEX had a range of Nokia 3210s the other day when I was in there.

                This ^^

Just moved to SIM only with GiffGaff as my phone (non-Apple but that's not the point) does everything I need, now paying £7.50/month

Oddly enough I thought that was one of Apples downfalls bearing in mind how fragile the screens are and the argument about the OS slowing down at regular points. Guess it depends on the case you have and how much the speed / number of apps you load it up with matters to you. I thought on a straight comparison this was one area Android easily beats Apple on this point?

Although the fixation that Apple fanbois have does make me roll my eyes I assume the OS must be good to get that fan base so I'd never say they were crap but I do know more people that were Android, tried Apple and ended up back Android than the other way around. It's just breaking out of the Apple mentality and being able to compare erm.. Apples with Apples

Just the sheer amount people spend on fixing screens is enough for me to stay Android. I can't see Apple would bring me a world of benefits that would make having the thing repaired regularly palatable.

The Nokia 3210 is a GSM cellular phone, announced by Nokia on March 18, 1999

Fond memories of my 1998 Nokia 6110. I only got shut of that because I damaged the charger connection somehow or other. A bit bulky compared to today's phones but otherwise nowt wrong with it.
